ABOUT

I value and nurture perseverance in my students and in myself. Frustration and discouragement are often part of the learning process; working through these makes the student stronger and more confident. By presenting several different approaches to problem solving, praising sincere effort, and sometimes just listening, I help students find their own unique learning styles. This makes them better able to succeed independently not only in the subject that they are learning, but in other subjects and in the rest of their lives.

Read the following two paragraphs and tell me what you think:

"Within the current academic paradigm, students are expected to absorb and demonstrate knowledge in a very specific fashion. Our dominant pedagogic model is that of lecture: an expert in a field presents information verbally to a group of students and then, by way of a written exam, assesses the students on their retention of the material. This model is not universally successful for all learners."

In plain English: "We can't all learn by just sitting and listening, plus tests are hard -- and unfair!"

If the plain English version of what I just said makes sense to you, we will enjoy working together.

Let's find your path.
